My name is Chao Wen. I’m a PhD student at the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems (MPI-SWS). I am advised by Dr. Adish Singla in the Machine Teaching Group. Before joining MPI-SWS, I was a research intern and later a full-time algorithm engineer at Alibaba.
My research interests include:
-
Generative AI for Creativity: Understanding and improving creativity in generative models. This includes (1) making generative models more creative, and (2) designing human–AI collaboration methods where generative models enhances human creativity.
-
Generative AI for Content Creation: Developing interactive AI systems that enhance the Human-AI co-creation process. This includes exploring agentic systems to improve creativity across diverse content generation tasks.
I am also more broadly interested in program synthesis, large models, reinforcement learning (RL), and multi-agent systems, and I am always open to exploring new research directions and applications.
In my free time, I enjoy a variety of sports and outdoor activities. I’m particularly fond of swimming, football, tennis, table tennis, and hiking. When I’m not in the lab, you might find me exploring hiking trails around Saarbrücken:)
